Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP)

A Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) allows eligible individuals in Canada to continue working while waiting for the final decision on their permanent residence application. This permit bridges the gap between the expiry of a current work permit or status and the approval of permanent residence. It is specifically designed for applicants who have applied for permanent residence through certain economic immigration programs, such as the Express Entry system (Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, Canadian Experience Class) or Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

To be eligible for a BOWP, applicants generally must have already submitted a complete permanent residence application and received confirmation of this submission from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). They must also hold a valid work permit or maintained status in Canada at the time of application. The BOWP is an open work permit, meaning it is not tied to a specific employer, allowing the holder to work for almost any Canadian employer. Strict adherence to IRCC eligibility criteria and application procedures is essential.
