Super Visa
The Super Visa is a multiple-entry visitor visa that allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to visit their family in Canada for extended periods. The visa can be valid for up to 10 years, and holders can stay for up to five years per entry — far longer than a standard visitor visa allows. Those already in Canada on a Super Visa can also apply from within Canada to extend their stay by up to two more years. The Super Visa is distinct from the Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP), which is a pathway to permanent residency.
To be eligible for the Super Visa, applicants must meet several requirements, including demonstrating that the child or grandchild in Canada can financially support them by meeting a minimum income threshold. Applicants must also provide proof of private medical insurance that meets IRCC's requirements — valid for at least one year from the date of entry and covering medical emergencies, hospitalization, and repatriation. A medical examination may also be required. The Super Visa allows parents and grandparents to remain in Canada as visitors for an extended period, fostering family reunification while adhering to immigration regulations.
