TEER Categories
TEER, which stands for Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities, is a crucial component of Canada's National Occupational Classification (NOC) system, specifically within the NOC 2021 version. It replaced the previous skill level designations used in earlier NOC versions. TEER categories are used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to classify jobs and determine eligibility for various Canadian immigration programs, particularly those managed under the Express Entry system.
Each TEER category reflects the typical amount and nature of training, education, experience, and responsibilities associated with a particular occupation. For example, TEER Category 0 covers management occupations, TEER Category 1 is for occupations that usually require a university degree, TEER Category 2 for occupations that usually require a college program of two to three years or apprenticeship training of two or more years, and so on. Understanding your occupation's TEER category is essential for navigating the Canadian immigration process and identifying which programs you may qualify for based on your work experience.
